Hi Gareth,
Thanks for your comment. It has also been mentioned the practice of being in a clinic of any type and being 'brushed off' to answer the phone. It is a terrible practice in terms of Customer Service. The person who is physically there should be given priority. Your point about Client Expectation is really very interesting and probably lends itself to a future post.

I totally agree, Emma.
I earn most of my money as a consultant. That means I am being paid by somebody to deliver value to them; not to answer the 'phone to another client. And yet, everybody does it. Trades people doing work in my house and being paid by me, setting up future jobs!

It's a fallacy that everybody should be available all the time. I don't expect to call people up at all times of the day and expect to actually speak to them. I call them because that's when I thought to do so. Equally, I never leave my clients with the expectation that they can reach me at any time. I run a business, not a crisis line!

I've had several occasions when the real person did answer the phone and caught me unawares: I expected to leave a message on the answerphone or with their answering service.

I have to say that as a client I'm impressed by how good the value is from Answer It. No unwanted callers, office always open, polite and accurate message taking. Well worth the investment.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for taking the time to comment. In response, here at Answer-it we promise to never make any client fit a specific profile. We know that all businesses are individual regardless of the field. So for that fact we like to discuss individual requirements with businesses to create a cost effective service encompassing all the client requirements.

Emma

I do know that I don't know how much your service costs! - which is a bit of an off-put, to be honest.

This comes down to an issue of specialisation.

Most virtual assistants I speak to are scared of missing a sale - so they offer everything.

Looking at a site the other day, the business owner had a diploma in accounts but was offering "facebook fan pages" as a speciality.

Now, I would want the worlds best facebook fan page author doing ours - not someone who was just dabbling.

BTW - Here is a challenge If you are the WORLDS best facebook fan page VA - Leave a comment and I am sure Emma will put us in touch :-)

Oh see now this is what gets cold calling a bad name! :( Boo Hiss... I really wish other companies would sort themselves out as otherwise people will continue to think we are all like this :(

We always call with a contact name and don't ask for contact by Job Titles as it is a complete give away. Why telemarketing agencies still do this with technology and social media such as linkedin is beyond me, just pure laziness I assume.

It's a complete false economy as the customer ends up paying for services that deliver poor results... you may aswell go and put your money down the nearest drain :)

Thanks for a good article Emma :)
